Hands-on ProjectsWith REF's support, over 50% of 5th graders and 100% of 6th - 8th graders participated in the Ravenswood District's third annual STEM Fair. Projects ranged from the physics of bridges to the chemistry of ice, and two fifth grade girls advanced to the county level to win first place for their engineering projects.
Moreover, the Middle School Science Lab Coordinator ensured that every 6th - 8th grader had opportunities to participate in over 20 hands-on labs during the school year. |
Engaging CurriculumREF supports Ravenswood's efforts to develop a new curriculum map to ensure all students benefit from an enriched learning experience. Teachers collaborate to align content, skills and assessments with the learning expectations set forth in the Next Generation Science Standards.
This year, three grades participated in Lawrence Hall of Science field trials for a new curriculum that teaches science while building reading, writing and discussion skills. |
Outdoor Field TripsAll third, fourth and fifth graders had opportunities to go beyond the classroom to explore the wonders of nature.
