Introducing the

ROCK ‘N’ READ

LITERACY CHALLENGE

March 9 — April 3

Designed to inspire a love of reading, from March 9 - April 3, students will dive into fun activities to boost literacy skills and track their engagement to earn prizes while building new literacy habits.

How the Challenge Works

Rock ‘N’ Read encourages students to build strong reading habits by tracking extra reading they do outside of regular classroom instructional time. Every extra minute counts, and participation is designed to be flexible and family-friendly.

#1 Read Outside of Classroom Time

Students can log extra reading minutes they complete outside of regular classroom instructional time.

Reminder: Reading during classroom instructional time does not count, but reading during lunch, after school, and at home all counts!

#2 What Counts as Reading

Students can log minutes for a variety of literacy activities, including: independent reading, an adult reading to them, buddy reading, listening to audiobooks, or completing iReady lessons.

Any book counts, and students are encouraged to read in ways that work best for them.

#3 Log Your Reading Minutes

Students can track their reading minutes in two ways:

Digital Logging

  • Log minutes using Beanstack. Every RCSD student has access to their Beanstack account by logging in using their R-net or Clever account.

  • Click here to view our how to guide in English.

Paper Logging

  • Students without a device can use the Rock ‘N’ Read Paper Reading Log

  • Logs are available at every school’s front office. Logs should be submitted on a weekly basis.

  • You can also print your reading log by downloading the log here.

#4 Win Prizes

Students will be celebrated for their reading effort and participation. Prizes are designed to encourage consistency, build excitement, and recognize students in a variety of ways.

Milestone Prizes

Students will receive prizes at their school as they reach reading milestones.

  • Prizes are distributed on campus

  • Rewards celebrate participation and progress

  • Every student has the opportunity to earn a prize

Special Recognition Prizes

In addition to milestone prizes, each school will recognize students in special ways at the end of the challenge. Special prizes will include:

  • Top Reader in the district

  • Top Reader at each school

Specific prize details and recognition categories may vary by school and will be shared as the challenge progresses.
